Practice Like a Pro – Day #9 – Weight Shift Drill

Practice like a PGA Pro…no, not Tiger Woods.  Me…Brandon Evans…a local PGA Pro with a fun job which occupies 8-12 hours of energy per day, 2 kids and a beautiful wife at home who I love spending time with, an affinity for landscaping, and too little time to practice golf.

Day #9 – Full Swing – Weight Shift Drill

Focus:  Full Swing

Description:   This drill improves your weight shift by forcing your body into the correct spine angle (spine tilted away from the target) at the top of your swing, crucial for establishing the correct in-square-in downswing path.  Swing the club to the top of your backswing and come to a complete stop.  Your goal is to be able to lift your front leg off the ground and keep it off the ground for a count of 5 at the top of your backswing.  If you can count to 5, you’re not only in the correct position, but you’re also well balanced.  Swing through to a good finish, and try hitting balls with the drill if you’re feeling up to a challenge.

Objective:  Hit 25 shots.

Time:  10 minutes.

    Hi Brandon,

Just read all nine days of practice tips. Really good ideas. Thanks for all your help. Now I need to get my wife Linda to read them and start practicing.
